  • Oxygen Sensor Slow Response test (P0134) - Nissan

    2019-02-11

An oxygen sensor slow response or low activity trouble code is almost always a faulty oxygen sensor. There are a few other things to consider before replacing the oxygen sensor. Exhaust leaks upstream or very near the oxygen sensor as well as oxygen sensor heater circuit malfunctions can also set this code. • Oxygen and CO2 - Principles of Environmental Measurement Lecture 9

    2019-02-11

Dr. Bruce Bugbee discusses measuring oxygen in soil and lab applications and oxygen sensors. This is part 9 of 9 in a series of ICT International and Apogee Instruments lectures that took place at the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment campus of the Western Sydney University. VIDEO CONTENT We are talking about the measurement of oxygen. This is so powerful because gases are used to measure metabolic rates of bacteria, plants, and people. 01:13 MEASURING OXYGEN IN SOIL One of the common applications of oxygen sensors is measuring oxygen in soil. Obviously if a plant is growing and it’s healthy and it’s consuming oxygen in the soil the oxygen goes down in the soil. When measuring this we want to understand how low oxygen is, and second we want to know the rate at which the oxygen goes down helps tell the respiration rate of the root system of the plant. This tells us something about the health of the plant. It’s both to monitor the oxygen and to do a metabolic rate study. 01:53 APOGEE’S OXYGEN SENSOR The oxygen sensor is a galvanic cell sensor so it causes a chemical reaction with the oxygen gas, which creates a tiny voltage measured by a datalogger. It has a screen accessory on the end to keep water away from the sensing tip and measure a bigger volume of soil. 02:56 LAB APPLICATIONS We are measuring the change in oxygen in a petri dish with seeds in it. This is an indication of the metabolic rate of these seeds. 04:10 METABOLIC RATE If we can measure the rate of oxygen depletion or the rate of CO2 build-up we know the metabolic rate. This can be done with either an oxygen or CO2 sensor. 04:50 Relative vs. absolute oxygen 06:35 BAROMETRIC PRESSURE Barometric pressure affects the concentration of gas in the air. It is easy to measure electronically. If the pressure changes and gets higher the gas gets denser. 07:06 Mount Everest example. When we measure oxygen we often measure pressure so that we can correct for differences in pressure, which allows us to sort out metabolism. 08:40 MEASURING OXYGEN IN HUMID ENVIRONMENTS Soil is close to 100 % humidity. The oxygen sensor has a gortex membrane that is gas permeable and does not let water in the sensor. If you put the sensor in soil and leave it, sooner or later it gets condensation on the membrane and the sensor stops working. To fix this we heat the sensor just one degree above background to prevent condensation. The heating is not enough to change metabolism but it is enough to keep condensation of the membrane. 11:12 TEMPERATURE EFFECT ON OXYGEN As the temperature goes up and down the density of the air and oxygen in the air changes, so we need to correct for the changes in temperature. 14:09 MEASURING OXYGEN AND CARBONDIOXIDE When we measure both oxygen and carbondioxide in soil we can get the respiratory quotient. This tells us what materials are being metabolized by the bacteria of soils. 18:35 LECTURE SERIES WRAP UP ------- More information on Apogee pyranometers at More information on Apogee barometric pressure sensors at ------ More videos on oxygen sensors at ------ Follow us to see all the cool places our sensors are used, get notices for free classes and how to videos, and product announcements! -Blog -Facebook -Twitter -LinkedIn

  • Bad head gasket symptoms, Head gasget bad? Easy way to check- Chevy Uplander

    2019-02-11

This is an Easy way to check for bad head gasket(s). This video shows Co2 gases entering a vehicles cooling system due to bad head gaskets. This is what can happen when you do not change your vehicles Antifreeze every 2 years with composite head gaskets. The other problem I have seen is that with steel layered head gaskets the cylinder head looses it seal to the engine block over time and starts leaking between the layers. I have seen some vehicles with as low as 32,000 miles a lot of vehicle around 80-100,000. Probable cause two different metals (aluminum heads on a steel engine block) and two different rates of expansion and contraction. Some symptoms can be thermostat, misfire and 02 sensor codes, bubbles in cooling system, heating problems, oil slime in coolant tank and or radiator, low coolant levels, leaking, split or blown out radiators, leaking water pumps, intake gaskets leaking oil and or antifreeze, catalytic converters that are inefficient or clogged, oxygen sensors that quit working properly and spark plugs that are coolant fouled. If the problem has gone on for long period of time and the gasket(s) is deteriorated enough and the antifreeze is now entering the combustion chamber, then you might have other symptoms of white smoke out the exhaust and antifreeze mixed in with your oil. Dealers used to say Maintenance Free, Change your Antifreeze every 5 years or 150,000 miles. Now they say 30,000 miles, which for most of us is about 2 years. Huge difference. Be mindful of these symptoms and remember to Find and fix the cause not just the symptom. This video is of a 2007 Chevy Uplander, 3.9 Liter with 52,181 miles.
